Title GST InvoiceNow: What Singapore Businesses Need to Prepare For

Singapore is progressively expanding the GST InvoiceNow requirement, marking an important change in how GST-registered businesses manage and submit invoice information.
For businesses, this is more than a technology change. It can affect accounting systems, invoicing processes and GST compliance.
What Is InvoiceNow?
InvoiceNow is Singapore's nationwide electronic invoicing network.
Unlike sending an invoice as a PDF by email, InvoiceNow allows invoice information to be transmitted in a structured digital format between accounting or finance systems.
The Government is progressively requiring GST-registered businesses to onboard InvoiceNow and transmit invoice data to IRAS.
Who Is Already Affected?
From 1 April 2026, all new voluntary GST registrants are required to submit invoice data to IRAS through InvoiceNow, regardless of when the business was incorporated or its business structure.
The requirement will subsequently be expanded to the remaining GST-registered businesses.
Upcoming Timeline
The current implementation schedule is:
1 April 2028
New compulsory GST registrants and existing GST-registered businesses with annual supplies of S$200,000 or less.
1 April 2029
Existing GST-registered businesses with annual supplies of S$1 million or less.
1 April 2030
Existing GST-registered businesses with annual supplies of S$4 million or less.
1 April 2031
Existing GST-registered businesses with annual supplies above S$4 million.
Why Businesses Should Prepare Early
The deadline may appear some distance away for many existing businesses, but implementation may require more than simply registering for InvoiceNow.
Businesses should consider whether their existing accounting and invoicing systems are InvoiceNow-ready and whether their internal processes can support accurate invoice-data submission.
This is also a useful opportunity to review:
Accounting Software · GST Coding · Invoice Processes · Customer & Supplier Records · Internal Controls · Record Keeping
Businesses planning to register voluntarily for GST should pay particular attention because the requirement already applies to new voluntary GST registrants.
Support Is Available
IRAS announced that transitional funding will be introduced to help businesses with onboarding costs.
Support of up to S$1,000 for SMEs and up to S$5,000 for larger businesses is planned, while SMEs can access InvoiceNow-Ready Solutions for free through March 2031.
